Resources For You

Whether you're exploring insurance coverage, treatment options, or admissions steps, you'll find the information you need to feel confident seeking care for yourself or a loved one at the Betty Ford Center.

What to Expect

Step 1: It Starts with a Phone Call

If you're concerned about your own alcohol or drug use—or worried about a loved one—your first step is a free, confidential phone call with one of our caring patient access coordinators. We'll help you understand what's going on and what support options are available.

Step 2: Understanding Your Needs

During your initial call, we'll determine if a more in-depth assessment is needed. If so, we'll schedule a substance use or mental health evaluation with a Hazelden Betty Ford clinician or refer you to trusted providers in your area. We also check insurance during this step, verifying whether your insurance is in network or out of network.

Step 3: Assessment and Recommendations

Through various assessments, we gather important details about your health history and current symptoms. This helps us determine an initial level-of-care recommendation based on your individual needs. With your permission, we may also speak with your healthcare providers or family members to better understand your situation. We will never contact anyone without your explicit consent.

Step 4: Financial Advocate

If treatment is recommended, you will be paired with a financial advocate who will work directly with your insurance provider. Hazelden Betty Ford is in-network with most major insurers (excluding Medicare and Medicaid). Your advocate will explain your benefits and any out-of-pocket costs.

To help with any out-of-pocket expenses, we offer internal financing options, as well as longer term payment plans through ClearBalance, our patient financing partner.

Step 5: Starting Treatment

We will work with you to schedule your admission date and guide you through the intake process.

  • Intake for residential treatment: You will start by completing paperwork, touring the facility, and beginning care in our medical detox unit to ensure your comfort and safety. Then, you will transition to your treatment unit and meet your care team.
  • Intake for outpatient treatment: You will receive a personalized schedule and complete intake paperwork. If you choose to stay on-site, we'll help you get settled. For virtual services, we'll walk you through the platform setup.
  • Integration of mental health services: If your treatment plan includes mental health services, your care may involve:
    • Individual and group therapy
    • Behavioral assessments
    • Medication coordination
    • Family or couples' therapy
    • Educational resources and referrals
    • Adolescent screening and early intervention (if applicable)
