Withdrawal from alcohol and/or other drugs can feel complicated and unpredictable. At Hazelden Betty Ford, detox is medically managed and monitored to ease withdrawal symptoms and relieve cravings. This ensures a safe and comfortable withdrawal process so you're in a better place physically and emotionally to begin inpatient alcohol rehab or inpatient drug treatment. We offer drug and alcohol detox services for patients aged 18 and older at our Center City location.
Online healthcare technologies have opened the door to addiction and mental health treatment for more people than ever. For many Hazelden Betty Ford patients, virtual care options have improved participation rates because attendance is more convenient.
Online counseling sessions can be an ideal alternative if you have accessibility or mobility challenges or if you're not located near our Center City, Minnesota campus. Our virtual addiction treatment programs are built with the same evidence-based interventions as our in-person rehab programs.
Substance use issues are typically accompanied by other mental health conditions. The mix and complexity of symptoms can make diagnosis and treatment challenging. For example, the symptoms of depression can become more severe with drinking or other drug use. Likewise, substance use issues can intensify as symptoms of depression worsen.
Hazelden Betty Ford clinicians specialize in dual diagnosis and treatment of co-occurring disorders. Mental health care is fully integrated into your individualized treatment plan and is provided by psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and addiction counselors who have expertise in treating co-occurring disorders.

Mental health services at Hazelden Betty Ford are available to individuals 12 years of age and older on an outpatient basis.
Our licensed mental health team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, and counselors. We provide the following mental health services:

Visitor Expectations
Respect the confidentiality of all patients.
Check in and register at our Cork Center visitor's desk each time you visit.
Park in designated parking lots only.
Always wear your visitor's badge while on campus.
Do not bring any over-the-counter medications to anyone on Hazelden Betty Ford property, including vitamins, dietary supplements, over-the-counter medications, herbal remedies, or energy drinks. Do not bring any type of medication in baggies.
Pets are not permitted on campus. Service animals such as seeing-eye dogs are permitted. Proof of current vaccinations should be available.
The use of cameras and recording devices, including those on cell phones, is not allowed on Hazelden Betty Ford property.
Patients may bring their visitor(s) to their residential unit.
Patients may escort their visitor(s) to the playground area and walking trails during designated visiting hours.
Cafeteria services are not available to visitors, but vending machines and coffee are available in the Cork Center.
Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, roller skates/blades or battery-operated/remote control vehicles are not allowed on campus.
Please do not arrive prior to the designated visiting hours.
Please leave promptly when visiting hours end.
Patients are not allowed in the parking lots or visitor vehicles.
Patients are not allowed to be taken off campus during visiting hours.
Arriving by Plane
- Please schedule your flight to arrive by Noon Central.
- At MSP International Airport Terminal 1, Hazelden Betty Ford transportation services will pick you up at Baggage Claim Carousel 13-14.
- At MSP International Airport Terminal 2 (Sun Country, Southwest, Frontier, Allegiant, JetBlue, Icelandair), Hazelden Betty Ford transportation services will meet you at the terminal.
- If flying into a regional airport/private charter, Hazelden Betty Ford transportation services will meet you at the gate.
- It may be up to a two-hour pick-up wait if you choose to use Hazelden Betty Ford transportation services.
Arriving by Vehicle
- Please arrive on campus as early as possible, preferably before 1 p.m. Central
- Once on campus, follow signs to Admissions and park in one of the designated parking lots for patients and families.
- Enter through the main entrance. Feel free to bring your luggage with you. Please let our receptionist know if you would like assistance with your luggage.

There are several local hotels, motels, bed-and-breakfasts, and inns near our Center City addiction treatment center. Ask for Hazelden Betty Ford preferred rates when making reservations nearby.

Service animals are permitted in Hazelden Betty Ford facilities, and we afford individuals who require the assistance of a service animal with equal opportunity to access the organization. Per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a "service animal" is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability.
Per the ADA, dogs or other animals whose sole function is to provide comfort, emotional support, or companionship do not qualify as service animals. Emotional support, therapy animals, and pets are not permitted at Hazelden Betty Ford facilities, leased spaces, or on campus grounds.
