Treatment Programs

Outpatient Drug Rehab

Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Like diabetes or hypertension, addiction to alcohol or other drugs is a chronic disease with behavioral aspects. Regaining and maintaining your health means learning to manage your symptoms, first within the structure of our outpatient treatment setting and eventually back in your everyday environment where you're in charge of your health and well-being.

Clinicians at Hazelden Betty Ford's Chaska treatment center specialize in all levels of outpatient care, from day treatment (also known as partial hospitalization or PHP), to intensive outpatient programs (IOP), to low-intensity outpatient sessions. Our IOP programs are available in-person and virtually.

Day treatment is initially scheduled for five hours a day, four days a week. IOP is initially scheduled for three hours a day, four days a week. As you gain more ground in your recovery, your treatment team may transition you into lower-intensity outpatient treatment.

One year after treatment, 74 percent of our patients report being sober

How can I tell if I need treatment?

Take a minute to think about the impact of alcohol or drug use on your relationships, your work life, or even your ability to cope with everyday challenges. These are some of the ways substance use could be affecting your health and quality of life.

To get a better sense of how risky your substance use might be—and whether you could possibly benefit from treatment—contact a Hazelden Betty Ford care navigator. Talking with you confidentially and at no cost, our care navigator will help you assess your situation, answer any questions you might have about getting help, and discuss the types of behavioral health services we offer in Minnesota.

If you're concerned about a teenager who's showing symptoms of alcohol or other drug use, ask about our specialized screening and brief intervention for teens. Called Teen Intervene, this counseling service is not a type of addiction treatment but rather an opportunity for a teen to take a closer look at their choices around substance use and where that might be leading them. Teens typically meet individually with a counselor for three sessions, with parents joining for one session.

What's the difference between day treatment and IOP?

Day treatment is the highest level of non-residential addiction rehab available. At our Chaska outpatient center, the day treatment program runs Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Some people come into treatment at this level of care, while others transition into day treatment after completing a residential/inpatient substance use treatment program.

Does Hazelden Betty Ford have detox services in Chaska?

We do not provide drug or alcohol detox services at our Chaska outpatient clinic, but our treatment centers in Plymouth, MN, and Center City, MN, have fully staffed medical units for detoxification services.

Due to the unpredictable and potentially severe side effects of drug and alcohol withdrawal, it's important to seek out medical advice regarding detox. Detox services are often required before starting an addiction rehab program because the process is designed to ease withdrawal symptoms and reduce drug cravings so you can focus more fully on your treatment program and recovery goals.

Is virtual treatment an effective option?

Definitely. If you have accessibility or mobility concerns or you aren't located near any of our Minnesota treatment facilities, Hazelden Betty Ford's virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) could be ideal for drug rehabilitation. For some patients, accessing treatment via telehealth has even resulted in improved participation rates because attendance is more convenient.

Our virtual program combines evidence-based addiction treatment therapies and practices, Twelve Step principles, and the latest scientific research about addiction recovery.

How will Hazelden Betty Ford help me after rehab?

Our post-treatment services and resources are designed to help you strengthen and advance your sobriety and recovery over the long haul. Scientific research identifies involvement in recovery-related activities as the best predictor of long-term sobriety. This engagement is especially important during the first 18 months of recovery when risk of relapse is most intense.

We offer a wide variety of recovery resources to support your healing journey, including:

  • Web and phone-based recovery coaching
  • Mobile apps
  • Recovery events
  • Self-help books
