Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Counselors and therapists at the Betty Ford Center understand that people come to us with varying degrees of motivation and commitment for making the behavioral health changes necessary to build long-term recovery. That's why our clinicians customize treatment planning to meet each patient's needs, concerns and challenges.

Our San Diego outpatient rehab center specializes in day treatment (also referred to as partial hospitalization) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) and low-intensity outpatient levels of care.

When you begin treatment, your care team will develop a personalized plan that identifies an initial intensity and pace of care. As you proceed, your treatment team will continually assess your progress and adapt your care plan accordingly. Your treatment team will also put together a post-rehab plan for you with recommendations for strengthening recovery and preventing relapse.

How can I tell if I need treatment?

If your alcohol or drug use is having a negative impact on your relationships, career, health or general sense of well-being, reach out to a Hazelden Betty Ford care navigator to talk things over. Our care navigators will speak with you confidentially and at no cost to help assess your situation and describe the types of behavioral health services and resources available.

You can also ask our care navigators for specific information about our outpatient treatment programs at the Betty Ford Center in San Diego, including:

  • Day treatment
  • Intensive outpatient treatment
  • Virtual intensive outpatient treatment
  • Low-intensity group sessions

Does the Betty Ford Center offer detox services in San Diego?

We do not provide drug or alcohol detox at our San Diego outpatient clinic, but our Rancho Mirage inpatient treatment center provides detoxification services at our on-site medical unit.

Withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs can cause severe and unpredictable reactions, which is why medically supervised detox services are often recommended. In addition to safely withdrawing from alcohol/drugs, the detox process eases withdrawal symptoms and relieves drug cravings so you can focus your energy and attention on treatment.

Does virtual treatment work for addiction?

Telehealth conferencing has opened the doors to treatment and therapy to more people than ever—offering a comparable level of care that's more convenient for some patients than in-person sessions.

The Betty Ford Center's San Diego-based virtual IOP program could be an ideal addiction treatment solution if you have accessibility or mobility concerns, are navigating around work schedules or you aren't located near any of our southern California rehab centers.

How can the Betty Ford Center help me after rehab?

Many of the changes you make during substance abuse treatment involve new ways of living your life that take self-awareness, practice and patience. Having the support of other who've "been there, done that" can make all the difference in navigating your way forward. In fact, staying connected with others in recovery is one of the healthiest moves you can make.

Hazelden Betty Ford's post-rehab services and resources are designed to do just that: Keep you engaged, motivated, inspired and moving forward. Our experts have developed a number of recovery support tools and resources to guide and strengthen your recovery, reduce your risk of relapse and help you make your health and well-being a daily priority.
